Cincinnati, OhOctober 23 -“Too often the news is about the scandals or problems with businesses and nonprofits,” BBB President Jocile Ehrlich said. “Our Torch Awards not only recognize good organizations, but lets our community know that good organizations that are committed to doing the right thing are the norm.” She added that our community has much to be proud of.

At a gala evening at Cincinnati's Music Hall, the Better Business Bureau celebrated the recipients and honorees of the BBB’s 2009 Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics.

The Torch Award recipients and honorees were selected by a distinguished panel of independent judges that included: Kathy Daly, C.F.O., Messer Construction; Jennifer Goodin Executive, Director Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Cincinnati; Dave Hatter Partner, Libertas Technologies; Tim Meyer President, Meyer Capital Management.

“The Torch Award encompasses the spirit and tradition of the BBB unlike anything else,” BBB President Jocile Ehrlich said. “It recognizes and honors businesses and organizations who fully commit themselves to ethical practices in all aspects of their business dealings.”

The Cincinnati BBB was founded in 1926 when the economy was roaring. Consumers needed to be able to rely and trust the companies they dealt with on a daily basis. The BBB’s founding members recognized that need and formed an organization that would set standards, lead the way, and promote a better, respectable and more ethical marketplace. The Torch Awards are a continuation of the BBB’s 83-year tradition and commitment to furthering that mission.
