Attorney General DeWine Files Lawsuit Against Online Company as Ohio Cyber Safety Week Begins

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced a lawsuit against online seller Egyptian Cotton Warehouse for multiple violations of Ohio consumer law. In 46 complaints filed within the Ohio Attorney General's Office and/or the Better Business Bureau, consumers said the Cincinnati-area based company, which sold home linens and bedding products, didn't deliver in one of two ways.

Widespread Harassment from Phony Debt Collectors Raises Concerns of Mass Data Breach, Warns BBB

Better Business Bureau is issuing a national alert today about phony debt collectors that are calling consumers nationwide and claiming that they have defaulted on a payday loan and will be arrested if they don’t pay immediately. Claiming to be lawyers, the scammers say they are with the “Financial Accountability Association” or the “Federal Legislation of Unsecured Loans” and are equipped with a disconcerting amount of personal information about their potential victims.

BBB Advises Cash-Strapped Small Business Owners Against Using Shelf Corporations to Deceive Banks and Attain Loans

While businesses find it increasingly more difficult to qualify for loans and lines of credits, small business owners are resorting to applying for loans from behind the façade of shelf corporations. Better Business Bureau is advising small business owners that, as tempting as these schemes sound, using a shelf company in order to misrepresent your credit worthiness to a bank could be considered loan fraud.
